ESPAÑOLEm uma manhã de Dezembro/1958, eu estava no templo da Igreja Batista de Laranjeiras/RJ (ex-DF) no momento em que o povo comemorava (com estrondosa alegria e gritaria), o Brasil como Campeão Mundial de Futebol. O Dr. A .Ben Oliver (Reitor do STBSB/RJ e meu Pastor e Mestre) parou a pregação e num gesto das duas mãos parecendo segurar uma bola, exclamou; “O DEUS DESSA GENTE É DESSE TAMANHO”. Foi bom ele ter falado porque todos pudemos soltar o riso e alegria contidos. Outra recordação: o Dr. Oliver pregava entusiasmado sobre Céu e Vida Eterna e exclamou: “Se alguém aqui quer ir para o Inferno fique de pé”. Nesse instante um visitante bêbado entrou no salão e respondeu: “É...só nós dois, né Reverendo!”
One morning in December 1958, I was at the Laranjeiras Baptist Church in Rio de Janeiro when the people were celebrating (with great joy and shouting) Brazil as the World Soccer Champion. Dr. A. Ben Oliver (Rector of the STBSB/RJ and my Pastor and Teacher) stopped his sermon and, with a gesture of both hands that seemed to be holding a ball, exclaimed: “THE GOD OF THESE PEOPLE IS THIS SIZE”. It was good that he said it because we were all able to let out our contained laughter and joy. Another memory: Dr. Oliver was preaching enthusiastically about Heaven and Eternal Life and exclaimed: “If anyone here wants to go to Hell, stand up”. At that moment, a drunk visitor entered the hall and replied: “Yeah...just the two of us, right Reverend!”
Una mañana de Diciembre de 1958, yo estaba en el templo de la Iglesia Bautista de Laranjeiras/RJ (ex-DF) en el momento en que el pueblo celebraba (con alegría estruendosa y gritos) el Brasil como Campeón Mundial de Fútbol. El Dr.A.Ben Oliver (Rector de STBSB/RJ y mi Pastor y Maestro) dejó de predicar y en un gesto con ambas manos, que parecía sostener una pelota, exclamó: “EL DIOS DE ESTA GENTE ES DE ESTE TAMAÑO”. Fue bueno que hablara porque todos pudimos dejar salir nuestra risa contenida y nuestra alegría. Otro recuerdo: el Dr. Oliver predicaba con entusiasmo sobre el Cielo y la Vida Eterna y exclamó: “Si alguien aquí quiere ir al infierno, que se ponga de pie”. En ese momento un visitante borracho entró en la habitación y respondió: “Sí... ¡solo nosotros dos, cierto Reverendo!”
